Burger King is to close up shop in New York, with about 70 jobs announced

Burger King, one of the nation’s largest burger chains, is to shutter its last U.S. locations, the company said in a statement late on Thursday.

Burger King USA, based in Omaha, Nebraska, said that the closures would save about 700 jobs.

The company said it will pay employees about $15 an hour, which it said would offset about $3 billion in costs over the next two years.

Burke, who owns Burger King USA with his wife, has said he has no plans to keep the chain going in the United States.

Burkes plans to build a second restaurant in New Orleans, the Associated Press reported.
